Who can say what sad mix
of resentments has shaped
the psyches (the very
souls) of these our boorish
brethren whose curious
readings of the sacred
texts avail naught but self-
assurance and dim rage?
And notice! They also
have developed a grim,
patently satanic
taste for absolving their
failures by impugning
others. Who can say what
species of ignorance
has led to this, has led
to them, and has also
borne their astonishing
number? Is it simple
ignorance? A chronic
forgetfulness? Dim wits?
I dare say it was no
device occasioned by
the God, whose signature,
longsuffering mercy
has not yet made a blip
on their failing radars
nor in their crusty hearts.
Sure, the Lord himself is
alleged to have spoken
a little harshly to
certain persons—the blithe
money changers soiling
the Lord’s temple, and those
who would wound the young—harsh,
if understandable.
Generally speaking,
even so, by word, by
deed, and by his famous
disposition, the Lord’s
forbearance has forborne
the vast majority
of my sins, your sins, those
of the resentful schmucks
indicated above.
I don’t know what to make
of them, nor have a clue
regarding a likely
response or late recourse.
Resentment manifests
failure of a kindred
spirit, which spirit proves
the sole acceptable
genius for responding
to such fraught occasions
as these we now suffer.
“the Lord’s
forbearance has forborne
the vast majority
of my sins, your sins, those
of the resentful schmucks
indicated above”
just lovely. grateful for your words this morning.
Thank you for this. At turns hilarious and then softly convicting.
